2023-2024 IDEA Grants
The Spotsylvania Education Foundation (SEF) awards IDEA Grants each fall to support innovative educational activities in Spotsy classrooms and school settings. These educational grants fund activities that engage, motivate and nurture students. In past years, the SEF awarded almost $17,000 across 12 IDEA Grants! Annual SEF Thank-A-Thon
Each fall, the Spotsylvania Education Foundation (SEF)holds its annual Thank-A-Thon to highlight Spotsy educators, both past and present, that have made a difference in their students’ lives. This initiative provides an opportunity for parents, students, alumni, and community members to share a personalized message of thanks for a current or former teacher, coach, bus driver, or other Spotsy staff member that has impacted their life or the life of their student while supporting current teachers and students. Messages are posted on SEF’s social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) during November and December. Use #SEFThankAThon to view shared messages of thanks from previous years. Previously, SEF also delivered candy grams to current teachers and attached their notes of thanks. The donations made during the Thank-A-Thon help the foundation continue its mission to enhance the quality and impact of student learning experiences in Spotsylvania County Public Schools.
Race for Education 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
Each spring, the Spotsylvania Education Foundation (SEF) organizes the Race for Education 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. This family-friendly event raises funds to enhance the quality and impact of student learning experiences in Spotsylvania County Public Schools (SCPS) through the Foundation. In 2022, participants were able to complete the 5th Annual Race for Education in person at Massaponax High School or virtually at a location of their choosing. One of the highlights of the race is naming the School Challenge Winners. Participants select an SCPC School team when they register. One school at each level with the largest number of participants will host the School Challenge Trophy for the next year and receive a $300 award. This year’s winners were:
Excellence in Education
The Spotsylvania Education Foundation was proud to host Excellence in Education, a fun event to celebrate the Teachers of the Year! This year’s event was held at Virginia Credit Union Stadium, home to FredNats baseball. The SCPS Division Teacher of the Year, Division New Teachers of the Year, Division Mentor Teachers of the Year, and each individual school’s Teacher of the Year and their guests joined the SEF Board, SCPS Leadership, and Community Sponsors on the 1st Base Skyporch to watch FredNat’s ballgame. The Division Teacher of the Year, ABC, threw out a first pitch for the game. Learn More
